People for Bikes scores our area in its Best Places to bike ratings

In its 2024 city ratings, People for Bikes gave El Cerrito a rating of 59 out of 100 (up from 55 in 2022) and Richmond a score of 30 out of 100 (up from 27 in 2023), compared with similarly sized cities. A perfect score is 100, and the average score of all cities across the United States was 28.

The ranking criteria include bike access to residences, commercial areas, jobs, hospitals, grocery stores, parks, transit, and other services. El Cerrito ranked 210th out of 2,579 cities evaluated nationwide (in the 92nd percentile), 26th in the Pacific region, and 15th in California. Richmond—a city with a much larger population and area—did not fare as well. We are making progress, but have a ways to go to get to the top score of 100!
